I started to create Lao style videos not too long ago, like around the start of the pandemic. Since I will be home more, I may as well create some videos.

“I remember I used to watch BGZTV on social media. His popularity grew because of his comedic skits. I actually got to hangout with BGZTV a few times and he’s a hilarious guy and definitely an entertainer.”

“The challenges

with my short

videos were

finding creative

ways to make it funny

and straight

to the point.”

“You don’t want to bore your audience if the video drags too long to get to the point.”

“There is a lot of trial and error with video shooting and editing, but I truly enjoy the process. Like I had one video where I’m lip mimicking a sound and I would have to retake it plenty of times until it feels right.”

For anyone wanting to make short videos, just do it and put your own flare or personality and style into it, and more importantly, have fun!

I learned that Laos is still an unfamiliar country to most people. We can represent  Laos in many ways from cooking to fashion to education, there are endless of ways. There are so many social media platforms (Youtube, Instagram, etc..) that we as Lao Americans can educate non-Lao people about the beauty of our culture. For me, I make short videos to show the different sides of being Lao.

“I hope 3-5 years down the line, Laos will be known to many people around the world for its people, beauty, and culture, and not remembered as

“that country next to Thailand.”

“Growing up, I definitely experienced a lot of the Lao culture as it was presented in most of my family gatherings from house blessings to weddings and sadly in funerals. We always tend to have a bottle of Hennessy at these events. Hennessy is like the default hard liquor for Lao people in general. “Bor Mao Lao, Bor Sao!” (Keep drinking until you’re drunk)”

“I am American-born so I never been out of the America until 2017 when I flew to Thailand/Laos for the first time ever.”

“I love Lao food! Lao food is funky, delicious and definitely spicy! My favorite Lao dish has to be Lao sausage and mashing it up with sticky rice....it’s so so good!”

“Sticky Rice is like family because family sticks together and so does sticky rice! Haha Overall, I’m proud to Lao!”
